so i actually found this drama to be quite good. except for the ending. i loved how i had no idea really where it would lead. for an avid korean drama fan, i could not predict the next move. i had no idea who would live, and who would die. i didn't know who was the good guy and who was the bad. it was extremely well done. there are many different side stories that all entangle into one, like usual, and you always have your favorites with each side story.
the main lead, chaegil. (played by jang hyuk: from thank you) was a slave hunter looking for a slave that he loved in the past. and of course there is the whole craziness with him actually being her master and her brother killing his entire family leading to chaegil's slave hunting life now. he is very good at acting during this drama. as a crazy slave hunter, who is lovesick and in pain as she is married to taeha. he portrays his strong slave hunting side well even while acting out the pain and being all macho, his acting shows him slowly breaking down. although he acts tough, throughout the drama, it is revealed how softhearted he is. rescuing all the slaves he caught, buying his sidekicks land and a house with all the money they earned. he is quite the loveable character.
my other favorites were his sidekicks, general choi and wangsom. they were definitely my favorites. especially wangsom's goofy character and always getting hit. general choi was also a favorite because of his cluelessness with the ladies. they really do portray a closeness with daegil especially well.
now considering this is a historical drama, remember there will be a lot of action. and lots of men. basically usually running around in clothes where you can totally see their six packs. most of the time. which is a pleasant thing to see. and as a girl, i parallel what the two jumo feel as they take care of the slave hunters when they come to eat at their restaurant.
another favorite is the "little wench". she is just hilarious in what she says. she says whatever is on her mind and the fact that she has found a home with the slave hunters just makes me smile.
other characters worth mentioning are:
-hyewon (lee da hae from my girl): she is the ex slave that fell in love with daegil and is now a noble married to song taeha
-taeha (oh ji ho from fantasy couple): the general turned slave because he was framed for stealing goods
i really enjoyed the drama just to watch the character interaction and their growth throughout the film. daegil really does undergo a lot of character development although i wasnt exactly sure what was going to happen in the drama. it was still quite good.
so besides the ending, i would say to go watch it.
